With a 500% increase on outreach activities during the last 15 months, the WNC has consolidated its core commitment of staying in close and regular contact with its Partners, to hear your views and to share relevant news and developments on a range of gender issues. Over the last 12 to 15 months - our 40th Anniversary year - there has been a significant increase in our activity which has been overseen by our Chair and Board of 14 Commissioners who have either chaired or been personally involved in all of the activities and we want to thank all of you who have participated in these events. We would therefore like to take this opportunity to provide you with a summary of this activity in order to keep you informed of work. Click on the charts to see the full image.

Saturday 24 October 2009 saw the 40th anniversary of the very first meeting of the Executive Committee of the Women's National Commission. The then Lord Chancellor, Lord Gardiner, attended the meeting and spoke about the Divorce Reform Act. The first meeting agreed to establish Specialist Committees to examine important areas of the time in greater detail, and these included, Women and Work; Education and Training; International issues and the UN; Economic issues; and Women in Society.
Forty years on, the need to highlight the inequalities that women experience day to day remains, even though some of the focus, emphasis and issues might have changed.
We want once again to thank all of our partners, friends and supporters in 2009 and all those who have supported us over the past 40 years.

Our All Partners’ Conference, taking place on the 19th November in London, is one of a series of open meetings with WNC’s partners to inform the setting of WNC’s own priorities and work programme, and to give Government information about the views of women and their key concerns. This year we shall be focusing on the Beijing Platform for Action priority topics, as laid down in the 1995 World Conference. In 2010 the UN General Assembly will hold a review of individual countries commitment to achieving these goals which aim to enhance the social, economic and political empowerment of women on an international scale.
